Tampa and Sarasota carpentry Who We Are
Baseboard, casing, crown molding, wainscoting and paneling are the parts of a room your eye reads first, and they are also the parts that show sloppy work first. Inside corners are the classic test. A mitered inside corner looks perfect on the day it is installed, but timber moves with humidity, and when a mitered corner moves it opens into a visible black line. A coped corner, where the end of one board is cut to the profile of the board it meets, stays closed because the joint has room to flex. On long runs of baseboard or crown, boards are joined with a scarf joint, a shallow angled splice that hides the seam far better than a butt joint and holds tight as the wood expands.
Paint grade and stain grade work are different disciplines. Paint grade trim can use finger-jointed or MDF material and tolerates filler and caulk at the joints. Stain grade work shows everything, so the material has to be solid, the grain has to be matched at the joints, and every nail hole has to be filled with matching putty rather than painter's caulk. Which grade your home calls for changes the material, the labor and the finish schedule, and it is one of the first questions worth answering on a site visit.

Carpentry 101
Carpentry on the Gulf coast is two different jobs in one trade. Inside, the work is finish carpentry: trim, crown molding, wainscoting, built-ins and stairs, where the tolerance is a sixteenth of an inch and every inside corner is a test.
Outside, the same crew is fighting sun, salt air, driving rain and timber that moves all year. Decks, pergolas and pool surrounds live or die on the material choice and on how the structure is fastened, not on how it looks the week it is finished.
We work in both, across Tampa and Sarasota, and the pages below explain what actually drives the result in each one.
Yes. SWFL Carpenters works across both cities and the surrounding communities, including Bradenton, St. Petersburg and Lakewood Ranch. Call (813) 379-9922 for Tampa or (941) 212-2560 for Sarasota.
No. Estimates are free. You describe the project, a site visit is arranged where the work needs measuring, and you receive a written scope to review.
Yes. Handyman visits exist for exactly that. The most efficient approach is to batch several small repairs into a single visit so one trip clears your whole list.
It depends on the location in the house. In conditioned interiors, solid pine, poplar and MDF all perform well for paint grade work. In rooms that see moisture swings, and anywhere near exterior walls, stable materials and corrosion-resistant fasteners matter more. The right answer comes from looking at your specific rooms.
The work is installation carpentry: templating, substrate preparation, setting tops, seam placement, sink and cooktop cutouts and overhang support. That installer's skill set is what makes a countertop sit flat, seam tight and stay supported.
Call the location nearest you. Tampa: (813) 379-9922. Sarasota: (941) 212-2560. You describe what you need, and the next step is a site visit or an estimate depending on the job.
Cost Guide
Every estimate is job-specific. These are the things that move the number most.
A single room of trim and a whole-house millwork package are different jobs. Scope sets the crew time before any material is priced.
Primed pine, poplar, hardwood and exterior-rated timber are not interchangeable. The species is usually the biggest single line on an estimate.
Interior work is stable. A deck in full sun, or a pool surround taking chlorine and bare feet, needs material and fastening that cost more and last longer.
Out-of-square corners, bowed walls, rot behind existing trim and failed ledgers all have to be dealt with before the finish work starts.
A pergola or a staircase is engineered, not just assembled. Spans, footings and connections drive both the material and the labour.
High ceilings, tight stairwells and second-story decks change how the work is staged, and staging is time.
From crown molding to a full pool deck, the same phone call starts it. Tampa: (813) 379-9922. Sarasota: (941) 212-2560. Estimates are free.
Send a photo of the space and the rough dimensions, and we will come back to you with a real number for the work in front of us.
